Toronto, ON, September 4, 2007– The 2007 Toronto’s Tribute Gala committee sends congratulations to Duncan Hawthorne, Bruce Power President and CEO, and Murilo Ferreira, CVRD Inco, President and CEO, recognizing their ongoing corporate support of Easter Seals kids and families. This year’s celebrations will take place on December 5, 2007 at the Fairmont Royal York hotel.
“I am truly honoured to be recognized with the Toronto’s Tribute Award for Easter Seals kids and to support such a worthy cause,” stated Duncan Hawthorne on hearing of the recognition. “For the last several years, I have had the great pleasure of meeting the kids and families from Easter Seals, and I am witness to their accomplishments and what financial support can do to help make the lives of these children easier.”
Easter Seals is pleased to have Shane Pospisil, President and CEO of the 170-member Ontario Energy Association and Easter Seals’ Board member as Chair of this year’s Toronto Tribute Gala.
In announcing this year’s recipients, Mr. Pospisil recognized CVRD Inco, (previously Inco) for their solid commitment to Easter Seals. “Since 1986, CVRD Inco’s support has grown substantially and we are very proud that they are now one of Easter Seals’ longest serving donors,” said Mr. Pospisil. “We are very excited that Mr. Ferreira has chosen to continue CVRD Inco’s support in a year when the organization is experiencing such exciting change.”
Toronto’s Tribute has raised over $1.7 million, with past honourees including Toronto Mayor David Miller, former Toronto Mayor Mel Lastman, Joseph Barnicke, Chairman of JJ Barnicke Ltd., David O’Brien, President and CEO of Toronto Hydro Corporation and last year’s recipient, The Right Honourable Paul Martin. All monies raised from this event go directly to helping families of children with physical disabilities across Ontario.
2007 marks the 85th anniversary of The Easter Seal Society, Ontario. Easter Seals provides financial assistance to children and youth with physical disabilities to offset the costs of expensive communication devices and mobility equipment such as walkers, braces and wheelchairs, and to provide opportunities for Easter Seals kids to attend fully accessible Easter Seals camps or to participate in other recreational and independence-building programs.
