Leafs 30th Annual Skate With Fans For Easter Seals Kids

Toronto, Ontario, November 13, 2007-For 30 years now, the Toronto Maple Leafs have welcomed the chance to skate with fans for Easter Seals kids. This year the Toronto Maple Leafs Skate for Easter Seals Kids takes place Sunday, December 2nd at the Air Canada Centre in support of children, youth and young adults with physical disabilities in Ontario.

For a minimum $100 in pledges, participants receive a 40-minute skate session for the chance of a lifetime, to skate with their favourite Leafs players. Top fundraising efforts will be rewarded and all participants can enjoy the variety of concourse activities ranging from face painting and arts and crafts to air hockey and floor hockey games.

“The Easter Seals Skate is a wonderful example of the Leafs commitment to being leaders in the community and engaging children in the community to be active regardless of their physical challenges,” said Beth Robertson, vice-president of marketing of Maple Leaf Sports & Entertainment. “We’re excited to support this initiative that provides Easter Seals kids and Leafs fans with a memorable experience.”

“It means the world to Easter Seals children and their families to have the opportunity to be out on the ice with their favourite Leafs players,” says Carol Lloyd, President and CEO, Easter Seals, Ontario. ”This event is also a great example of kids helping kids. Participants from all over the province are generously raising pledges, which will go a long way in helping Easter Seals provide children with physical disabilities with mobility and communications equipment and opportunities to attend fully-accessible summer camp.“

The Toronto Maple Leafs Skate for Easter Seals Kids is an initiative of the Leafs Fund, which is committed to responsible community leadership by providing access to sports and recreation opportunities, encouraging health and wellness in the community. Through strong support, the Toronto Maple Leafs Skate for Easter Seals Kids has raised $5 million to help Ontario’s kids with physical disabilities.

2007 marks the 85th anniversary of The Easter Seal Society, Ontario. Easter Seals provides financial assistance for essential mobility equipment, such as walkers and wheelchairs, for children with physical disabilities, as well as fully accessible summer camp and funding for participation in other summer recreational programs.
