Ontario’s Lieutenant Governor Makes a Special Visit to Easter Seals Camp Merrywood

Perth, ON, August 21, 2008—On Wednesday, August 27th the Honourable David C. Onley, Lieutenant Governor of Ontario, will witness how community support helps Ontario’s youth with physical disabilities achieve their full potential. His Honour will join the Rotary Club of Perth and other area Rotary Clubs for the 60th Anniversary Celebration of the fully accessible Easter Seals Camp Merrywood.

“We are proud to have been a supporter of Easter Seals Camp Merrywood for 60 years. In that time we have seen many examples of the positive impact the programs of the camp have had in the lives of both campers and their families. This is why we are pleased to host a special day to celebrate this special facility and the people who make it such a wonderful place,” says John Shideler President, Rotary Club of Perth.

“Thanks to long-time supporters like Rotary, Easter Seals Camps are proud to create an environment that fosters autonomy, self-esteem and acceptance for children and youth with physical disabilities. As a result, many campers leave camp not only with new skills and friendships, but also with a sense of pride and accomplishment,” says Robert Berkovitz, Chair of the Easter Seals Board of Directors.

Easter Seals helps ease the financial burden on families so that children and youth with physical disabilities are able to get the specialized equipment and programs they need to achieve their full potential and independence.

1:00 p.m.: Reception at Code’s Mill Inn and Spa, 82 Peter Street, Perth, Ontario
2:00 p.m.: Lieutenant Governor tours Easter Seals Camp Merrywood
2:30 p.m.: Lieutenant Governor meets campers, their families, camp staff and delivers a short speech
3:00 p.m.: Rotary Club of Perth hosts a reception
